A Sediment Water Filter removes the physical debris and impurities from your water. The sediment filter has tiny holes through which water can pass, while the unwanted particles are trapped. As these particles come in different sizes, the filters are measured in microns - the smaller the micron rating, the smaller the holes, allowing the filter to capture even the smallest particles.

Generally, for water that is more visibly polluted, containing larger particles, a sediment filter with a larger size (such as 20 or 50 microns) is recommended in the first stage to prevent clogging of the next filters. This sediment filter is often the first filter installed in a Reverse Osmosis circuit, acting as a net to catch unwanted particles like sand, dirt, silt, rust, and other fine particles.
