A Sediment Water Filter removes physical debris and impurities from your water. The sediment filter has tiny holes through which water can pass, but unwanted particles are blocked. As these particles come in different sizes, the filter sizes are measured in microns - the smaller the micron, the smaller the holes in the filter, allowing it to capture the smallest particles.
Generally, for water that is more visibly polluted and contains larger particles, a sediment filter of a larger size (such as 20 or 50 microns) is recommended as the first stage of installation, to prevent clogging of the subsequent filter stages.
This sediment filter is often the first filter installed in a Reverse Osmosis circuit, acting as a net to catch unwanted particles, including sand, dirt, silt, rust, and other fine particles. Sediment filters are made of fine melted polypropylene, which is then blown and spun into a cylinder-like form. Polypropylene is a substance resistant to chemical solvents, bases, and acids. Removal of these particles allows other filters, such as Carbon Block or GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) filters, to perform better and for longer periods.
These sediment filters intercept a variety of impurities, including rust, corrosion, coarse sand, fine sand, scale, and other particles. They are available in a standard 10-inch size, suitable for most under-sink Reverse Osmosis water filtration units, whole-house water systems, under-counter water filters, and countertop water filter systems.
These filters offer an extraordinary dirt-holding capacity, with superior contaminant holding capacity and flow rate compared to similar-sized sediment filters. They can reduce sediment particles as small as 1 micron without adding taste, odor, or color to the water, making them suitable for residential, rural, commercial, industrial, and municipal applications.
The filters are made of fine melted polypropylene, have a height of 10 inches (24.4 cm), an outer diameter of 2.5 inches (6.35 cm), and an inner diameter of 1.125 inches (2.5 cm). They have a micron rating of 1 and a flow rate of 5 GPM. The operating temperature range is 40°F (4.4°C) to 125°F (51.7°C), and the operating pressure range is 20 PSI (1.4 bar) to 125 PSI (8.6 bar). The filters should be replaced two or three times a year, depending on water quality.
These sediment filters are wrapped, sealed, and meet NSF (National Science Foundation) standards and regulations. They are compatible with various Reverse Osmosis and water filtration systems, including models from DuPont, 3M, Aqua Pure, Culligan, OmniFilter, GE, Aquaboon, Manitowoc, Whirlpool, American Plumber, and more.
